Phone Jewellery: How We Decorate Phone Cases With Charms, Shells, Pearls, Buttons and Pendants

Trays of gold charms, shells and stones used to decorate phone cases

Inside the studio

Real treasures, set into your phone case.

Phone jewellery is anything that decorates your phone the way a piece of jewellery decorates an outfit. At The Charmé Edit, we set charms, real shells, pearls, vintage-style buttons and pendants into a layer of gel on a case made for your phone model. Every case is made by hand in London, so no two are the same.

Design your phone case

Beauty brands are putting lip gloss and balm on phones, as we covered in our beauty phone case trend report. We've always seen the phone a little differently: as a small canvas for things you love. Here's everything we decorate with, and how it's made.

Charms

The heart of every design. Our charms come in three sizes: grande (2 to 4 cm) for statement pieces, midi (1 to 2 cm) for most of the layout, and mini (under 1 cm) for finishing touches. Themes range from hearts and bows to moons, flowers and vintage treasures.

Real shells

Shells bring natural texture and colour that a printed case can't copy. We use small mixed sea shells, iridescent abalone, starfish shells and spiral shells in gold or silver, so every shell case is slightly different.

Sea Treasures is our curated shell design. You can order it as it is, or add your initials.

Pearls

Pearls soften a design and make it feel more like jewellery. We mix pearl clusters, pearl stones and pearl flowers, and they sit well with both gold and silver charms.

Buttons and pendants

This is where a case starts to look like a jewellery box. Vintage-style buttons add a flat, decorative layer, while pendants such as ornate keys, heart pins, cupids and sacred hearts become the centre of a design.

Crystals and fillers

Small crystals fill the gaps between bigger pieces, so the design looks set in rather than scattered. They also add sparkle without bulk.

How a decorated case is made

  1. We start with your case. A silicone case made for your exact phone model, in white or black.
  2. We add the gel. A layer of gel goes on the back, in a glitter, white or black finish.
  3. We set each piece by hand. Charms, shells, pearls, buttons and pendants are pressed into the gel one by one.
  4. The gel cures. Once set, everything is held firmly in place.
  5. We check and pack it. Each case is made to order in London in 4 to 7 working days, then shipped.

What to expect day to day

Because the pieces are raised, the phone won't lie completely flat on a table. Charms are set into cured gel rather than glued on top, so they stay put through normal use. Read whether charm cases are durable enough for daily use and how to spot a handmade charm case.

Finish it with a strap

A pearl or beaded phone strap completes the jewellery look and makes the phone easier to hold.
